Workplace Health & Safety Update


South Australia’s work health and safety legislation include a broader duty of care provision to that of ‘person conducting a business or undertaking’.  This means that employers and workplaces are responsible for anyone that contributes to the conduct of a workplace, and have a duty to ensure the health and safety of that workplace including eliminating or minimising the risks to it, as far as reasonably practicable.

Compliance is not a choice, it is compulsory.  Ignorance with regard to the codes of practice is not an excuse.  Non-compliance can result in work place incidents, claims of negligence and negative PR, not to mention hefty fines and custodial sentences.

This duty extends to all persons present in your workplace that contribute to the conduct to your workplace, such as other contractors, maintenance workers, courier and delivery drivers, as well as your employees.  You want to ensure that everyone is familiar with the hazard and risk protocols and procedures.
